The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck.
Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement. After running hoses, firefighters were able to knock down the fire within minutes, Peck said.
Once the fire was out, Vista and South Salem firefighters conducted ventilation and overhaul operations while checking for extension throughout the structure, he added.
The fire was contained to the basement area and the family was able to stay in the home, the chief said.
No one was injured.
Other departments on scene included Pound Ridge, New Canaan, Wilton, Bedford Hills, and Ridgefield, and Westchester EMS paramedics, along with Battalion Chief 13.
